Our Journey

IMG_1181_edited_edited.jpg

The primary goals are to increase upland game bird and associated songbird populations across the Indian Creek Initiative Area as well as the SCBI Piedmont Focal Area which encompasses Newberry, Union, Laurens, Chester, Fairfield counties surrounding the Sumter National Forest. This will be accomplished by using science-based management recommendations with regards to timber harvests, prescribed burning, and vegetation management/planting. The desired population responses for northern bobwhites will be achieved by creating high-quality habitat for northern bobwhites and songbirds associated with early-successional vegetation. Current woodland habitat patches on USFS lands are separated by closed canopy forests and non-native pastureland that provide little cover or food for northern bobwhites and associated songbird species.
